Dangers Associated with Current Logging Practices

• Greater quantity of suspended materials in waterways
   
• Increase in water temperatures due to loss of waterside shade
   
• Logging waste effluent increases biochemical oxygen demand and a dinimunition in available oxygen dissolved in water
   
• Clearcuts and Soil Regeneration Protection Logging SRPL cause dangerous mercury pollution. Les CPRS, coupe avec protection de la régénération des sols ou coupes à blancs actuelles, entraînent une pollution au mercure très dangereuse.
   
• Northern forests have great difficulty regenerating. Tree growth is noticeably slower, as are the ecological cycles. This makes these ecosystems much more vulnerable
   
• Habitat loss: knowing that there are 150 moose in 100Km2 at this moment, it is very pertinent to wonder where they will all go if only 425Km2 of the Island is protected nbsp;?
   
• General endangerment of biodiversity
   
• Social problems related with the eventual exhaustion of natural ressources, with consequences as serious as town and village closures, a rise in unemployment, difficult economic circumstances, and collapse of regional economies.
   
• Destructive impacts caused by logging machinery, creating ditches that destroy natural soil drainage mechanisms.
